MATT LEYS

After working as a rostrum cameraman and graphic designer (letrasetting titles for James Bond films under the watchful eye and fat cigar of film title legend Maurice Binder), I joined the Royal College of Art film department as a student producer in 1989. With almost no money, a tiny office and a single telephone, the five production students turned out films nonstop for two years. I produced films on 16 and 35mm, in the studio and on locations from Liverpool council estates to Hadrian's Wall.

There was no screenwriting course at the RCA - so we learned on the job. After winning the Fuji Award for best film with WENDY, director Jim Doyle and I began writing together full time. We wrote episodes of PIE IN THE SKY and the low-budget feature FLIRTING WITH FLAMENCO, and worked with Lee Evans on his C4 series THE WORLD OF LEE EVANS.

Since then I've been a full-time writer and script editor. I have a variety of projects at different stages of development, from sitcoms to dramas, family and kids' shows, for TV, film and radio.

I grew up and still live in North London, where I work in a studio at the end of the garden, in the company of a small scruffy dog called Letty Frizzle.
